The Slavic Foundation was established in 1992 by the community of Warsaw Slavicists. Its goal is to support research and promote knowledge about the languages and cultures of Slavic countries. The Foundation collaborates with many domestic and foreign based Slavistic centers and since its founding supports young generations of Slavicists.
In 2000 it began effectively obtaining financing for publications from the Ministry of Science an Higher education and by 2015 76 books were published using the means acquired in the program for activities popularizing research. The foundation has organized many international scientific conferences in cooperation with such domestic scientific centers as: Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Western and Southern Slavic Studies, University of Warsaw and the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, University of Wrocław.
Acknowledging the changing reality and the needs of Slavicists the foundation has engaged in activities in the field of digital humanities. Since 2015 it’s the partner of the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences in a project devoted to the online publication of 8 open access scientific journals. The Foundation also supports the Bibliographic Database of World Slavic Linguistics Publications (iSybislaw) and the Online Repository of Texts in the Field of Slavic Studies (iReteslaw).
